The Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE is an international competition where participants are selected to create an innovative consumer technology and user-friendly mobile app that can diagnose up to 16 different medical conditions without a physician, and continually monitor five key vital signs for 72 hours. This was the challenge set to build this device in six months! $10 Million in prize money to the winners.
We worked to translate algorithms for diagnosing each of the 16 medical conditions into a workflow engine used by the device. The challenge was to ensure that the diagnosis would be accurate when a patient is the user with no doctor present. We worked to create over 100 different user experiences on our device and have it communicate with multiple medical scanners, blood analyzers and custom designed vitals monitors.
Out of 330 teams, we (Team CloudDX) are still one of the top seven remaining teams in the world – and the only Canadian finalists. Now, in the final stage of the Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE competition, real people with real medical conditions will be using, testing and evaluating each device on user experience in order to determine the competition winner, which will be announced in early 2017.
